Family and Medical Leave Act
The Family and Medical Leave Act, allows employees to take up to 12 weeks leave every year for the birth or adoption of a child or if you or a family member are sick. FMLA leave is only available to employees who have worked full time for at least one year for the same employer and the employer must employ at least 50 employees. If you lose your job after taking FMLA leave, you may be entitled to return to your job and recover lost wages and benefits (which may be doubled if the violation is wilful) plus your attorney fees and costs.
